Today, Greece voted in favour of another bailout package. Many Greek politicians have voted for the bailout when the people they were representing clearly do not want this to happen. I'm sure that it's news to no one that newspapers are in decline and people are turning towards the Internet to get their news and information. I'm reminded of this every time I open a paper and look at the letters to the editor section. If the typical letter writer is to be representative at all of the general reader of the newspaper, one can assume that he or she is uninformed yet of the strong opinion that he or she is not. I find that the real tragedy is how newspapers and the mainstream media frame the debate around any issue is the level of state involvement and hardly ever whether the state should be involved at all. As the Western Empire slowly stagnates and loses its international and domestic influence, it increasingly turns to its foundation to keep that power. The reason Government has power is because the people who stand behind it and support it, allow it to create a monopoly on force. If you do not follow the rules you are threatened with violence, jail, and/or legal action. The main reason people support this monopoly is because they are dependent on its continued existence for their livelihood.
